The Buffalo Sabres snapped a three game losing streak on Thursday night when they defeated the Boston Bruins, 7-4. Thomas Vanek put forth a dominant five-point performance while Ryan Miller stood his ground in net, making 38 saves en route to the victory.
In what was over-hyped as an inevitable bloodbath between the rivals, the game was instead a fast-paced showdown of two dynamic offenses. John Scott dropped the gloves with Bruins’ tough guy Shawn Thornton just three minutes into the game and secured a decisive victory, presumably setting the tone for the rest of the game. However, Thornton was forced out of the game with an injury following the bout, and Scott’s display of force seemed to deter much of the running around usually seen from the Bruins. No further altercations took place.
