The Buffalo Sabres snapped a three game losing streak on Thursday night when they defeated the Boston Bruins, 7-4. Thomas Vanek put forth a dominant five-point performance while Ryan Miller stood his ground in net, making 38 saves en route to the victory.

In what was over-hyped as an inevitable bloodbath between the rivals, the game was instead a fast-paced showdown of two dynamic offenses. John Scott dropped the gloves with Bruins’ tough guy Shawn Thornton just three minutes into the game and secured a decisive victory, presumably setting the tone for the rest of the game. However, Thornton was forced out of the game with an injury following the bout, and Scott’s display of force seemed to deter much of the running around usually seen from the Bruins. No further altercations took place.

Sabres face home-and-home against new-look Canes

      January 24, 2013 by

Two teams with completely opposite starts to their seasons could see everything change when they meet on back-to-back days (Thu. @ Carolina, Fri. @ Buffalo). Carolina is off to a literally pointless start as they are 0-2-0, and the Sabres have worked their way to another 2-0-0 start. Buffalo has a chance to put a [...]

After a seven-plus month off-season, any NHL hockey is a sight for sore eyes — but let’s face it, Saturday’s lineup of games (featuring teams like the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, and defending Stanley Cup [...]

Lining up out of the lockout

      December 6, 2012 by

Is the NHL lockout about to be lifted? Although members from both sides of the CBA dispute stress that there’s still work to be done, consecutive days of marathon meetings between the NHL and NHLPA have apparently yielded at least some results. Details are scarce, but the general feeling is that negotiations are moving in [...]

Hypocrisy, greed and the most frustrating lockout yet

      August 23, 2012 by

Once upon a time there was a bit of hope that a CBA would get done on time. Then everybody realized that Gary Bettman is the commish, and we were talking about greedy millionaires. The fact is, we’re spiraling towards a lockout. And in my experience with watching these CBA negotiations, this is by far [...]

      What’s next for the Sabres?

      August 8, 2012 by

Alright, all together now: YAWWWWNNNNN. That’s what it feels like being a devoted follower of the NHL right now. Absolutely nothing going on. There is some breaking news on the Shane Doan front, though. Shane Doan has announced that he’s STILL wasting his time trying to stay on the Titanic, I mean Coyotes. The Sabres [...]

      Why O’Reilly won’t be a Sabre

      August 6, 2012 by

It’s a common occurrence in the late summer days for hockey bloggers to put forth their own ideas of what the Sabres can do to improve the team. After all, the free agent pool is virtually empty, and trade talks don’t seem to be going anywhere fast. It’s the most boring time of the year for a [...]

      Potential Sabres Alumni Plaza statues

      July 16, 2012 by

A few days ago, the Sabres made the exciting announcement that a statue of the French Connection (Rick Martin, Gilbert Perrault, Rene Robert) will be created to contribute to a “alumni plaza” that will go outside of First Niagara Center. I, for one, think this is the best thing I’ve heard all offseason. I believe [...]
